The Institute of Education (IE) marked the culmination of months of discipline, perseverance, and professional growth during the MANAWARI Sports Science Internship Closing Ceremonies, which brought together mentors and academic leaders in a celebration of creativity, pedagogy, and student-centered learning.

“[We highlight] the importance of instructional materials by showcasing innovative and engaging teaching resources created by Bachelor of Physical Education [PE] students of [IE]. The event demonstrated how [these] can promote creativity, collaboration, and meaningful learning experiences while allowing future educators to apply their knowledge and skills in teaching [PE] effectively,” said said Dr. Jayson Cruz, program director.

Cruz said these are important in education because they enhance the teaching and learning process by making lessons more engaging, interactive, and easier to understand. He added that these help teachers present information clearly while encouraging students to actively participate, think critically, and apply what they have learned in meaningful ways.

He said these tools are especially vital in PE.

“In [PE, these] are especially valuable because they support active learning, skill development, and health awareness. Materials such as visual aids, activity-based tools, multimedia resources, and innovative teaching strategies help students better understand physical fitness concepts and practical activities,” said Cruz.

Cruz also noted how student-led initiatives highlight applied learning in action.

The academic and professional journey of Sports Science students was recognized as they transitioned from classroom learning to field-based practice. The ceremony also underscored the importance of internship experiences in developing competence, adaptability, leadership, and a deeper understanding of service in health, fitness, and human performance industries.

Faculty members, mentors, and supervising professionals were likewise acknowledged for their guidance and support throughout the students’ training.

More than a closing ceremony last April 27 at the University Conference Center, “Momento Esspecial 2026: Showcasing Innovative and Engaging Instructional Materials that Promote Active Learning and Holistic Wellness” served as a celebration of purpose and preparation, honoring students who demonstrated resilience and embodied the institute’s values of excellence, collaboration, and holistic development.

Active learning, wellness

The event underscored the growing importance of innovation in education, particularly in Sports Science and PE, where interactive instruction and holistic wellness play vital roles in shaping learners’ physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Through thoughtfully designed materials and dynamic teaching demonstrations, students were encouraged to move beyond traditional methods and embrace experiential, learner-centered approaches that cultivate participation, collaboration, and lifelong wellness.

Prominent educator, researcher, and esteemed expert in PE and Sports Science Dr. Salve A. Favila shared her insights on effective teaching strategies and transformative techniques. Drawing from years of academic expertise, Favila emphasized the significance of innovation, adaptability, and meaningful engagement in creating impactful learning experiences for students.

Meanwhile, Bachelor of PE students showcased their instructional materials through dynamic demo-teaching presentations. Their demonstrations reflected not only academic preparation and creativity, but also a deeper understanding of how active learning environments can inspire student motivation, wellness, and participation inside and outside the classroom.

Recognized as Best Presenters were Jelian Rose Adrias and Tochukwu Onoura Timothy Okolo, whose presentations highlighted excellence in instructional delivery, creativity, and practical application of educational concepts.

Events like Momento Esspecial remain essential in teacher education because they provide future educators with opportunities to bridge theory and practice. By encouraging innovation, collaboration, and reflective teaching, these initiatives help prepare aspiring professionals to become adaptive, compassionate, and effective educators capable of responding to the evolving needs of 21st-century learners.
