This March, student organizations at Far Eastern University, in coordination with the Office of Student Involvement, created spaces that highlighted women’s voices through conversations on gender, faith, health, and advocacy.

Among these was the Grand Iftar organized by the FEU Muslim Circle, which brought together students in a shared moment of reflection during Ramadan. The gathering included a short talk by Ustadz Naif Jadoon on the deeper meaning of fasting, emphasizing community and inclusion. “Jadoon is an Islamic educator and community figure active in the country. He is frequently recognized for his role in student-led Islamic initiatives and educational outreach.”

The FEU Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) also participated in One Billion Rising, using dance as a form of expression to raise awareness on violence against women. In another initiative, YWCA led “Amplifying Whispers,” a session that opened discussions on sex education and menstrual health, aiming to challenge stigma and promote informed dialogue.

“One Billion Rising and Amplifying the Whispers are two festive events that empower the cry of feminism… The success of the two projects [boils] down to the timeless impact of empowered women, empowering women, all in the name of feminism,” said Ysabelle Velez, president of YWCA. Her statement underscores the intention behind both events not only to raise awareness, but to create spaces where women’s voices are heard and sustained.

Meanwhile, the FEU Drug Abuse Prevention Core Group organized Women Resisting Violence, featuring Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima, which highlighted the role of women in shaping conversations on democracy, rights, and resistance.

One participant reflected that the session was “a powerful reminder of the importance of remembering the victims of the drug war during the Duterte administration,” noting how hearing from de Lima brought “a more personal and human perspective” to these experiences. The participant added that “courage can take the form of everyday acts speaking out, staying informed, and refusing to normalize injustice,” emphasizing the need to continue retelling these stories “not to reopen wounds, but to honor the victims and give them the recognition they deserve.”

Across these activities, student organizations demonstrated that Women’s Month is about creating spaces for awareness, dialogue, and meaningful engagement within the university.
