Students from the Bachelor of Special Needs Education program at the Institute of Education recently took part in “Empowering Through Braille: A Tactile Literacy Journey,” an activity designed to enhance their understanding of braille and its role in inclusive education.

Led by Special Education teacher and advocate Noel O. Galvez, Jr., the event provided participants with invaluable insights into the world of visual impairment and the crucial role Braille plays in empowering individuals through literacy and independence.

Galvez, known for his dedication to inclusive teaching, emphasized that Braille is more than just a system of writing—it is a gateway to opportunity, autonomy, and equality for learners with visual impairments. His session not only informed but inspired future educators to become champions of accessibility and inclusion.

The event was designed to deepen the understanding and equip the students with the awareness needed to create learning spaces where every learner feels seen, supported, and empowered—regardless of ability.

As the session closed, a resonant message lingered in the minds of attendees: “building an inclusive learning community begins with compassion, education, and a commitment to break barriers.”
