In a continued effort to elevate teacher education and respond to the evolving demands of the academic landscape, the Institute of Education of Far Eastern University convened its Industry Expert Forum toward a shared mission: to refine, realign, and strengthen the preparation of future educators.
“The realities of the classrooms are constantly changing—with every new batch of students, with every change in the curriculum of the basic education, with every new technological innovation. Student-teachers need to be prepared for these changing realities. These are first experienced inside the actual classrooms of our partner schools,” said Vida Luz Villegas, supervising faculty of IE interns. “The teachers in these schools having had the experience to bridge theory into practice have also developed the skill to adapt to varying changes from as simple as changing lesson plans on the actual day of teaching to adopting new strategies to ensure that their students maximize learning opportunities.
Villegas also said partner schools—industry partners—are vital in ensuring that student-teachers are ready to teach the students they will have in the future. Their cooperating teachers is the key to them in applying theory to their teaching practices appropriately, she said.
“[Their] work reflects the often-unseen but vital role of academic facilitators in bridging institutions and sustaining partnerships that benefit both learners and communities,” said Villegas. Spearheaded by IE Department Chair Daniel B. Saroca, the forum served as a collaborative platform where academic theory meets field-based realities. Representatives from partner institutions including FEU High School, Academia Progressiva de Manila, Independent Living and Learning Center, FEU Roosevelt Marikina, Joyful Hands Kiddie Center, MSA Whiz Kids Academy, and Sienna College offered grounded insights drawn from their direct engagement with FEU student interns. Central to the discussion were the strengths demonstrated by student-teachers adaptability, commitment, and pedagogical creativity alongside the challenges they continue to face in real classroom settings. These candid exchanges underscored a crucial truth: meaningful education reform begins with listening. By opening its doors to external evaluation and critique, the FEU community reinforces its commitment to continuous improvement and academic excellence.
More than a forum, the gathering symbolized the power of community. It highlighted how collaboration between universities and partner institutions creates a dynamic ecosystem where knowledge, practice, and innovation intersect. For FEU, this initiative is not merely about curriculum enhancement, it is about shaping educators who are responsive, reflective, and ready to meet the complexities of modern education.
As FEU continues to cultivate future-ready educators, initiatives like the Industry Expert Forum stand as a testament to the university’s enduring belief: that education thrives not in isolation, but in collaboration.
