Far Eastern University strengthened its commitment to student employability through the PEP Talk Series last Oct. 22 at the FEU Manila Main Auditorium. Organized by the Career Development and Placement Office (CD&P), the event brought together experts from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the careers and education technology company Prosple to provide students with valuable insights into labor policies, job market trends, and effective career pathways.

The session drew students from various FEU institutes—including the Institute of Accounts, Business and Finance; Arts and Sciences; Architecture and Fine Arts; Education; Health Sciences and Nursing; and Tourism and Hotel Management.

Two speakers led the discussions. Engr. Carl Denver S. Baccay, Labor and Employment Officer III from DOLE, provided an overview of key labor laws, workers’ rights, and responsibilities that every job seeker must understand before entering the workforce. His session underscored the importance of legal awareness in preventing workplace issues and promoting fair employment practices.

Trisha Pimentel, graduate attraction specialist from Prosple, complemented the discussion by focusing on career development. She shared practical tips on job searching, resume building, and understanding the expectations of employers. Her talk emphasized the need for students to be adaptable, well-prepared, and proactive when navigating today’s competitive recruitment landscape.

“I didn’t realize how important it is to know our rights as early as now,” said an Arts and Sciences student. “The discussion helped me understand what to expect once I start working and how to protect myself as an employee.”

“[Ms]. Pimentel’s tips on job applications were really practical. I feel more confident now about how to present myself to recruiters and how to prepare better for internships and job opportunities,” said a student from Accounts, Business and Finance.
