The Teacher Education Council (TEC) spearheaded a capacity building program for new assessors of teachers’ and school leaders’ career stages, as well as for Centers of Excellence in Teacher Education.
The training, from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3, brought together around 70 education leaders from across the country, representing several public and private institutions. These leaders form a new pool of assessors tasked with ensuring that standards of teaching and educational leadership continue to rise in the Department of Education and higher education institutions.
The initiative underscores TEC’s continuing vision of professionalizing the teaching workforce and promoting evidence-based assessment for career progression and institutional excellence. Through this endeavor, the council strengthens the foundations of quality assurance in Philippine education, empowering assessors to uphold integrity, equity, and excellence in every evaluation.
Among the participants were Far Eastern University (FEU)’s Senior Director for Academic Standards, Dr. Joseph Jintalan, and Director for Academic Quality Assurance, Dr. Percival Paras, who joined fellow education leaders in advancing the collective mission of nurturing competent and inspired educators for the nation’s future.
“[The university]’s voluntary participation is significant, first as part of strengthening FEU’s network with fellow teacher education institution [TEI],” said Dr. Paras who, together with Dr. Jintalan, discussed among other TEIs shared practices and common challenges particularly those designated as Center of Excellence in Teacher Education. “Second, the participation of FEU helps contribute to the development of policies and instruments for the call for Center of Excellence, as well as the career stages of public-school teachers. Lastly, it also benefits FEU’s Institute of Education in its application for Center of Excellence, helping our education programs comply with the standards prescribed by the [TEC].”
This workshop marks another step toward a more empowered, high-performing, and globally competitive teaching community, one that continues to shape generations through excellence and transformative leadership.
