The FEU Academy, in partnership with the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP), wrapped up their Certificate in Labor Relations (CLR) program at FEU Makati from March 15 to May 10. The program, led by Atty. Alvin A. Manuel,  AVP for Human Resources at Century Pacific Food, Inc., provided participants with an in-depth understanding of labor laws and their practical applications in human resource (HR) management.

Designed to strengthen professional competence and ethical labor practice, the eight-session program equipped participants with the knowledge to navigate key areas of labor and employee relations. Topics included Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiation, employee discipline, contracting and subcontracting, and global labor practices—all aimed at fostering industrial peace through effective HR leadership.

Based on feedback gathered from the participants, the program received an overall average rating of 3.93 out of 4.00, with all major aspects rated as “Excellent.”

Participants commended the credibility and clarity of Atty. Manuel’s facilitation, describing his approach as insightful and practical. They emphasized his ability to connect legal concepts to real workplace scenarios, making complex labor relations topics more accessible.

“Atty. Manuel’s real-life examples helped us see how the law operates in actual HR settings, and it made the lessons truly relevant,” said one participant.

The qualitative feedback also revealed appreciation for the program’s structure and relevance. Participants noted that the sessions deepened their understanding of CBA negotiations, labor standards, due process, and disciplinary procedures, while also sharpening their skills in drafting documents such as Notices of Charge and implementing HR policies fairly and legally.

In the assessor’s observation, Atty. Manuel was commended for demonstrating credibility, professionalism, and mastery of labor relations. His teaching fostered a respectful and engaging classroom environment that encouraged critical thinking and active participation, said the assessor. The assessor also noted Atty. Manuel’s ability to balance theoretical grounding with practical applications, ensuring participants are left with knowledge and confidence.

Overall, the CLR program achieved its objectives of delivering a comprehensive and practice-oriented learning experience. It empowered HR professionals and organizational leaders to handle labor relations issues ethically and strategically within their respective institutions.
