In line with Far Eastern University (FEU)’s ongoing commitment to sustain the National Greening Program (NGP) site assigned by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) during the 2024 Arbor Day Celebration, its Community Relations (COMMREL), in partnership with the Office of Student Involvement (OSI), conducted its fifth quarterly monitoring visit to the La Mesa Watershed Park last Oct. 24.
The team assessed the 375 narra trees planted by FEU, many of which have already reached a height of at least five feet, which is a strong indicator of healthy growth and a thriving reforestation effort.
Twenty-three volunteers from the National Service Reserve Corps core group joined COMMREL and OSI in trekking to the site to check on the condition and progress of the trees.
For the volunteers, witnessing the steady growth of the trees made the uphill walk through wet and slippery terrain worthwhile. The visit reinforced a meaningful realization that tree planting is not a one-time activity, but a long-term commitment to protecting the environment. Inspired by the progress, the group looks forward to continuing their quarterly visits and ensuring that FEU’s reforestation efforts endure.
