The National Service Training Program (NSTP) and Community Relations Office of Far Eastern University (FEU) recently assisted two vulnerable groups in society—the elderly and children.

Last May 19, members of the NSTP’s National Service Reserve Corps Core Group visited the Little Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly (St. Theresa Jornet) for a lively bonding session with the lolas (elderly women). The festive atmosphere was filled with laughter, music, and dancing, as the elderly eagerly participated in games prepared by student volunteers. The activity, organized in partnership with the congregation which also serves as a deployment site for NSTP 2 students, included a special lunch, tokens, flowers, and meaningful moments of connection.

Earlier in the month, last May 8, the same team brought smiles to the young residents of White Cross Children’s Home, where 76 abandoned children were treated to a day of joy through interactive games, toy giveaways, and food sharing. The initiative aimed to extend care and solidarity with children in need, reinforcing the spirit of empathy and volunteerism among FEU students.

“Service doesn’t have to be grand to be meaningful. What matters most is the time, energy, and heart we share with others,” said Atty. Rosalie Cada, director of NSTP and Community Relations. “Through these simple yet heartfelt engagements, our students learn that empathy and action go hand in hand in building a more inclusive society.”

These initiatives align with several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
