The participants of the recent Basic Life Support and Occupational First Aid Training are now equipped to handle emergencies.

Jointly conducted by the Far Eastern University National Service Training Program and Community Relations (FEU NSTP and ComRel) and Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), the four-day series enhanced the emergency response skills of students, facilitators, employees, and faculty members.

The training was led by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) from the Manila DRRMO, who introduced critical emergency medical skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR, wound treatment, fracture stabilization, and effective medical emergency response strategies. The participants gained hands-on experience through interactive demonstrations and practical exercises designed to prepare them for real-life emergencies.

The event also included written examinations and practical assessments to test the participants’ understanding of the techniques. They were encouraged to actively engage with the material, ensuring that they left the training confident and well-equipped.

One of the participants, Diego Jose Abad, dean of the FEU Institute of Arts and Sciences, expressed his gratitude to the NSTP and ComRel and the EMTs for conducting the life-saving training at the university. He praised the EMTs' dedication to imparting valuable knowledge and ensuring that the participants could apply their newly acquired skills.

Abad added that the training provided the participants with the confidence and competence to act effectively in times of emergency, noting that the hands-on approach and practical exercises highlighted the importance of being prepared for unexpected situations.

The collaboration between FEU NSTP and ComRel, and the Manila DRRMO highlighted the significance of community-based training and disaster preparedness. This partnership further strengthens the university’s commitment to developing responsible, skilled individuals who can positively impact their communities. Additionally, it reinforces FEU’s dedication to fostering community resilience and promoting proactive disaster response strategies.

The training was held last March 17, 18, 20, and 21.
