Marine conservation at Coastal Cleanup

Demonstrating its steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and community involvement, Far Eastern University (FEU) joined thousands of advocates at SM by the BAY for the International Coastal Cleanup last Sept. 19.

Responding to the event’s call to action, #SeaTheChange, 53 Tamaraw volunteers gathered along the shores of Manila Bay. The FEU delegation brought together administrators, faculty members, non-teaching personnel, external National Service Training Program (NSTP) facilitators, and representatives from FEU High School and FEU-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation.

The participating faculty members represented the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management, Institute of Education, Institute of Accounts, Business, and Finance, and Institute of Arts and Sciences.

Assigned to Zone 1 near the MOA Eye, the designated sector for academic institutions, the volunteers worked alongside delegates from other schools to collect, sort, and document plastic debris and other coastal waste.

Despite the early call time and physically demanding work, the volunteers maintained a strong sense of collaboration and shared purpose.

"While the physical work along the shore was certainly challenging, it was an incredibly rewarding and worthwhile experience," said Atty. Rosalie J. de la Cruz-Cada, Community Relations Director.

"Seeing different sectors of our university—from leadership and faculty to staff, NSTP facilitators, and affiliate institutions—unite for a single environmental cause truly reflects the Tamaraw spirit of service and community stewardship. We extend our deepest gratitude to all 53 volunteers who gave their time and effort to make a difference," she added.

This participation was made possible through the joint effort and collaboration of the Community Relations Office, NSTP, and Human Resources Department, whose combined coordination mobilized the university-wide delegation for this endeavor.
