In a significant step toward strengthening the academic foundation of its programs, the Institute of Education conducted a comprehensive review of curriculum alignment for its faculty members. The event, held on campus, emphasized the importance of aligning teaching strategies with student learning outcomes through a rigorous internal evaluation process.

Ariel Capati opened the discussion by revisiting key elements of the curriculum agenda and reflecting on the department’s academic direction. He highlighted the vital role of both macro and micro alignment, noting that accreditors place a strong emphasis on internal curriculum evaluation. Capati also underscored the department’s adherence to outcome-based education, a framework that focuses on measurable student outcomes as the core of instructional planning. A critical comparison between Commission on Higher Education’s general outcomes and those of the IE program further anchored the conversation, reinforcing the need for consistency and purpose in curriculum design.

“Curriculum alignment is essential in education because it ensures that teaching strategies are effective and directly linked to student learning outcomes. When lessons, instructional methods, and assessments are carefully coordinated with the curriculum’s goals, students experience a seamless and meaningful learning journey,” said Neliza De Lara, chairperson of the IE Undergraduate Studies Department.

“Teachers can use strategies that actively reinforce key concepts, making lessons more engaging and purposeful. For students, a well-aligned curriculum fosters deeper understanding by allowing them to see connections between topics rather than just memorizing information. So for me, curriculum alignment isn’t just about organizing content — it’s about creating a learning experience that feels meaningful, coherent, and supportive for both teachers and students,” added De Lara.

The review marks a continued commitment by the department to educational excellence, promoting clarity in instruction and confidence in learning. As the department moves forward, the emphasis on curriculum alignment is expected to shape a more responsive, relevant, and results-driven academic experience for future educators.
