FEU marks 20 years of Servathon participation as Hands On Manila turns 25
Far Eastern University (FEU) marked 20 years of participation in Hands On Manila’s Servathon as the organization celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Over the years, administrators, academic managers, faculty, employees, students, alumni, NSTP facilitators, and other members of the university community have taken part in HOM volunteer initiatives.
At Servathon 2026 on September 26 at Le Pavillon in Pasay City, 30 FEU volunteers joined this year’s #KainSiglaPilipinas activity. The team assembled self-watering bottle towers using upcycled PET bottles and planted leafy greens and herbs for Mandaluyong Elementary School and Hulo Integrated School, both in Mandaluyong City, and Ricardo P. Cruz Sr. Elementary School in Taguig City. The project is designed to support sustainable food access through simple, space-saving gardening solutions.
NSTP facilitators also joined the activity as FEU explores how the project can be replicated for NSTP students.
FEU’s participation has also been supported by units across the university, including the former Volunteerism Office, the Alumni Relations Office, Community Relations, FEU Nicanor Reyes Foundation, FEU Technology, Human Resources, Academic Affairs, and the NSTP Office.
During the event, FEU was recognized as one of the top 20 corporate partners of Servathon’s 20th edition. FEU received a limited-edition artwork by Filipino sculptor Impy Pilapil. The stainless-steel piece features a handle inspired by the pabalat, or pastillas de leche wrapper, a traditional Filipino papercutting art. FEU also received a Plaque of Recognition for its contribution to Servathon 2026.
FEU Vice President for Corporate Affairs Dr. Rowena Capulong-Reyes, who accepted the recognition for the university, said the milestone reflects the value of sustained community engagement.
“Our participation in Hands On Manila for the past 20 years reflects FEU’s continuing commitment to volunteerism and community engagement. This year’s activity is a good example of how service can be practical, sustainable, and responsive to what communities need.”
Hands On Manila’s 25th anniversary also highlights the scale of the volunteer movement it has built. Over the years, HOM has mobilized more than 77,000 volunteers and logged more than 540,000 hours of service through work with over 50 companies and organizations.

In her 25th anniversary message, HOM founder Gianna Montinola placed the organization’s work within the Filipino tradition of collective action.
“Twenty-five years ago, we simply asked: how can we help people help each other? Today, the world is asking the Philippines that very question, and bayanihan is our answer.”
