The FEU Alumni Relations Office (ARO) launched the 2028 Green and Gold Awards last May 13, marking a symbolic milestone—1,000 days until Far Eastern University’s centennial anniversary.

As FEU approaches its 100th founding anniversary, the Green and Gold Awards serves as an inspiration for the Tamaraw community to uphold the values of fortitude, excellence, and uprightness.

The program opened with welcoming remarks from Dr. Rowena Capulong Reyes, Vice President for Corporate Affairs, setting an inspiring tone for the afternoon. Celmer L. Santos, director of ARO, followed with an overview of this search.

Dr. Emma Cuenca, a 2013 Green and Gold awardee, took the podium to deliver a speech that encapsulated the spirit of excellence that the awards embody. Her words echoed FEU’s enduring commitment to excellence and the nurturing of future leaders. As a fitting conclusion FEU Chair Aurelio R. Montinola III declared the official opening of the nomination period for the 2028 Green and Gold Awards.

Several previous awardees graced the occasion with their presence, including Dr. Marcelo Casillan, 2003 Green and Gold Awards awardee; Cecilia Peña, 2008 awardee; Atty. Dominador D. Buhain and Christopher Ferareza, 2018 awardees; and Hentje Leo L. Leaño and Marnelli Dimzon, 2023 awardees.

“Receiving the Green and Gold Award means a lot to me. I’ve always told many people several times that there’s no greater feeling associated to being an FEU graduate than the feeling of being called back home, and your alma mater telling you how proud they are of what you have accomplished so far in your chosen profession,” said Leaño.

“Receiving the Green and Gold Award is both humbling and deeply meaningful. It’s more than just a recognition for me. It’s a full circle of moments that capture a life-long journey with FEU. This award validates every moment of dedication, from early morning trainings as a player, to the long hours of guiding the next generations of Tamaraws,” said Dimzon, 2023 Sports Hall of Fame awardee.

The Green and Gold Awards recognize FEU alumni whose exceptional achievements have brought honor to their alma mater and contributed significantly to society. Inspired by the university’s colors, the awards reflect FEU's commitment to nurturing potential and upholding a gold standard of service to the nation and the world, especially as part of its founding anniversary celebration. It comprises three awards, namely Outstanding Alumni Award, Cultural Award, and Sports Hall of Fame Award.

The Outstanding Alumni Award is a recognition given by FEU to its alumni who have made exemplary achievements in their field and demonstrated commitment to the community and to the university. Recipients bring honor to FEU through their work and community service and inspire the members of the FEU community by leading a life of fortitude, excellence, and uprightness.

Meanwhile, the Cultural Award is conferred on artists who are nationally recognized as outstanding in their field by virtue of winning in prestigious national or international art or literary competitions or being acknowledged as such by legitimate critics or by their peers. It may be given to artists who have consistently produced outstanding works in their art form or have evolved a distinct style or technique that enriches the development of their art form. The award may be given to artists or a group of artists in the fields of fine arts, digital arts, performing arts, or literature.

Finally, the Sports Hall of Fame Award may be given to athletes who made a mark in the professional leagues and international competitions.

Any person of good standing from reputable organizations can act as a nominator and can nominate one or more nominees. The deadline for submission of nominations is at 5 pm on February 8, 2027.
