FEU confers honorary degree on Lourdes T. Gutierrez-Alfonso

Far Eastern University (FEU) proudly bestowed the degree, Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa upon Lourdes T. Gutierrez-Alfonso, president of Megaworld Corporation, in a special conferment ceremony recognizing her extraordinary contributions to business, community building, and nation development.

The conferment, led by FEU president Juan Miguel R. Montinola and chairman Aurelio R. Montinola III, honored Gutierrez-Alfonso for her transformative leadership that has shaped communities, elevated industries, and championed inclusive progress across the country.  

She was commended for advancing tourism and township development that showcases Filipino excellence and fuels regional growth, most notably through the establishment of the country’s largest hotel and the flourishing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. 

A staunch advocate of sustainability, Gutierrez-Alfonso has placed environmental responsibility at the core of corporate innovation, leading Megaworld to achieve carbon neutrality while spearheading wide-reaching environmental campaigns. Her career also stands as a beacon for women in leadership, breaking barriers and fostering a culture of meritocracy and shared purpose that continues to inspire future generations. 

Gutierrez-Alfonso’s professional journey is deeply intertwined with FEU. A Certified Public Accountant, she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major in Accounting, from the University in 1984.

She began her career at Megaworld in 1990 as Chief Accountant for its Finance Department and rose through the ranks to become President, helping steer the company into becoming the Philippines’ largest developer of townships, residential condominiums, lifestyle malls, hotels, and office space. 

Through this conferment, FEU not only celebrates an accomplished alumna but also affirms its mission of nurturing graduates who embody the spirit of service, innovation, and leadership. These are the values that Lourdes T. Gutierrez-Alfonso has exemplified throughout her remarkable career.
