Alumna tops blitz event in Abu Dhabi

Far Eastern University Sports Hall of Fame awardee and Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna once again made history for Philippine chess by becoming the first Filipina to win an international women’s chess competition.
The BS Psychology alumna claimed victory at the 31st Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival-Ladies Blitz last Aug. 23. She triumphed over a strong field of 120 participants from 24 countries, finishing with an impressive score of 8 points from 7 wins and 2 draws.
Meanwhile, FEU Diliman Girls Chess Team member Ruelle Canino also competed and placed in a large group tied for 24th, earning 5.5 points.
